Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos celebrates with the trophy during the UEFA Champions League Final at the National Stadium, Cardiff.

Champions League…plenty of value to be had

With Real Madrid at such short odds for the Champions League, Bookmakers are running scared of the Spanish giants, and OddsMonkey firmly believes that means value can be found elsewhere.

Despite no huge deals for Madrid in the transfer market this summer and no new ‘Galaticos’, such is the strength of Zinedine Zidane’s side that they are firm favourites to claim a third straight European crown and are as short as 7/2 to become the first side to accomplish such as feat since 1976 when Bayern Munich achieved it.

In contrast to Madrid, big spending Paris Saint Germain – with the two most expensive players in the world in Neymar and Kylian Mbappe – have seen their odds slashed and are now into 6/1, followed by Bayern and Barcelona at 7/1, after which the English sides follow with the two Manchester clubs – City and United, the leading fancies at 9/1.

“Much depends on how good you think Real are in comparison to the rest of the competition, but Bookmakers and Punters alike are convinced by Madrid and they continue to see the most money across every Bookmaker in every country,” explained OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.

“PSG have been the biggest movers seeing their odds more than halved into 6/1 following their impressive captures of Neymar and Mbappe, and they have moved ahead of heavyweights Bayern Munich and Barcelona, who have drifted to 7/1 and could very be the value.

“Last year’s beaten finalists Juventus are one to keep an eye on, they are out to as far as 16/1 indeed – Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are shorter.

“However, Bookmakers are telling us that the biggest backed English side is actually Liverpool – which explains that they are as short as 15/1 with some for the title – which is merely down to the extent of money that has come in for them.

“So, if you want to back Real – the message is clear, get on them now as the odds will likely be getting shorter, but away from them there is some real value to be had, especially with the English sides – although Tottenham have not been feeling much love and are as long as 33/1 more than twice any other Premier League side.”
