After one of the biggest boxing shows of all time, this weekend sees potentially one of the greatest boxing fights of all time taking place as Gennady Golovkin fights Saul Alvarez.
Unbeaten Kazak Golovkin, known as Triple G, takes on Mexican Alvarez, known as Canelo, in Las Vegas on Saturday night, with the boxing world expecting something special from the middleweight world title bout.
After what many perceived to be the circus that was Floyd Maywather v Conor McGregor – Triple G against Canelo is the fight the boxing community have been salivating about.
OddsMonkey understands that Golovkin and Alvarez to be the third highest grossing betting fight of the year so far, behind only Mayweather-McGregor and Anthony Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko.
“Bookmakers and Punters alike are finding this a very hard pick, and that is the great thing about this fight – you don’t often get it when it hard to separate them in the markets,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.
“But in the UK, Punters and Bookmakers are siding with the European fighter in Golovkin, which is not a major shock given how much of him they will have seen – it wasn’t long ago when he was destroying Kell Brook. So with our Bookmakers he the favourite, odds-in in fact with many at around 8/13.
“Alvarez, who has only ever lost to Mayweather, is longer at around 6/4 – but not huge. From what we are seeing, it is a really tempting fight to bet on given the odds.
“The fact only Maywather v McGregor and Joshua v Klitschko are ahead of this in terms of betting, highlights just what a big event this actually is.”
Fight odds:
Golovkin 8/13 (BetVictor)
Alvarez 6/4 (Ladbrokes)
