It is all change in the Masters betting with former world number ones Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods heading the market for the run-in to Augusta
At the turn of the year, neither McIlroy or Woods were near the head of the betting, with in-form Americans such as world number one Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas dominating.
However, it is former world number one pair McIlroy and Woods who have the Bookmakers running scared.
“After his weekend win at the Bay Hill, McIlroy has seen his odds slashed and he is now 8/1 favourite to capture his maiden Green jacket at Augusta, the only Major he needs to become only the sixth player to complete the Grand Slam,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.
“But McIlroy’s biggest rival could be one of the Grand Slam winners in the shape of Woods – indeed he has won each at least three times, but his last major was back in 2008.
“However, Woods has seemingly shaken off years of injury problems, and has two back-to-back top-ten finishes and the Bookmakers have him in at 9/1 – remarkable when you think that Woods is still ranked outside the top-100.
“It is clear from what we are seeing that Bookmakers are scared of McIlroy and Woods, they are the fans’ favourites and they are seeing the vast majority of the money – victory in Georgia for either would be terrible news for the Bookies.
“However, that said – it does mean there is real value elsewhere in the field, especially amongst the other top-ten players in the world.”
