Bookmakers have closed the markets on the name for the new Royal Baby, after the odds were slashed on Alexander.
The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her third child on Monday, but as yet the name of the brother to Prince George and Princess Charlottte has yet to be confirmed.
The Duke, attending a commemoration service was overheard speaking to the Australian High Commissioner Alexander Downer, and when he claimed his name would be suitable – William quipped it was a ‘good name’.
Now on the back of that, Alexander was made favourite ahead of the previous market leader Arthur.
“Alexander was 14/1 at best less than 24 hours ago, but a lot of money came very quickly and forced markets to be closed, as it quickly became favourite ahead of Arthur,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Pete Watton.
“Bookmakers report a similar pattern before the announcement of George and Charlotte were made.
“However, just how much of this is down to William’s quotes? We are not sure – it will be interesting to see the price on previous favourite Arthur, as well as James which was also well-backed – should the market re-open.”
