The Eurovision song contest is offering a huge betting market, but everyone in the UK is seemingly backing against home act SuRie.
The Essex-born singer heads to Portugal hoping to become the UK’s first winner since Katrina and the Waves took victory in 1997.
But as it stands the odds suggest that she is in for a long evening, as her song is ranked very much as one of the outsiders and it seems she is more likely to become the fourth British act to finish last following on from Josh Dubovie in 2010, Andy Abraham in 2008 and Jemini in 2003,
“The Eurovision has all the major Bookmakers interested, but the odds and money coming in suggests SuRie will not trouble the main contenders,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.
“Indeed, Bookmakers are taking bets on a ‘null points’ for SuRie and she is just 12/1 not to score a single point, and 7/4 to finish in last – either way, the public do not see a UK celebration coming this weekend.
“If you are looking at the likely winners – Cyrpus and Israel have seen a huge portion of the betting, in what is one of the most popular non-sport market of the entire year. Cyrpus are odds-on in places, and they are the firm favourite.
“However, the biggest mover in the market has been Ireland’s Ryan O’Shaughnessy – 100/1 earlier in the week, he is down to 7/1 now.”
