Rangers have confirmed Steven Gerrard as their new manager, but will the former England star deliver success to Ibrox.
Gerrard has opted to take his first step into management with the Glasgow giants, which will see him handed the task of trying to topple rivals Celtic – ironically now under the charge of his former boss Brendan Rodgers.
Celtic will go into next season off the back of two trebles, and it will be Gerrard’s job to try and stop them from claiming an eighth successive title.
However, Bookmakers don’t see it being a quick changing of the guard North of the Border.
“Rangers price on winning the league in 2018 has changed a little, but Celtic are still the only player in town according to the Bookmakers,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.
“Celtic are currently 1/12, which is over 92% probability – whilst Rangers, although second favourites are out at 12/1.
“Gerrard’s appointment, though, has garnered a host of markets and although the league title looks a long way off, he is a short price to get his hands on some silverware next season as that is around 11/8.
“If you do think he will be a success, Gerrard is just 4/1 to make a return to Liverpool as manager one day.”
Selected Gerrard & Rangers odds:
Rangers to win Scottish Premiership next season – 12/1
Rangers to win a trophy in 2018/19 – 11/8
Steven Gerrard to become manager of Liverpool – 4/1
