Bookmakers across the board have cut England’s odds on World Cup glory after the draw for the finals was completed in Russia.
England were drawn into Group G with Roberto Martinez’s Belgium – who were the seeded team – Tunisia and World Cup debutants Panama.
Bookmakers are already reporting some support for England following the draw and they have generally been cut across the board.
“The draw looks like a good one, but we have heard that before when it comes to England,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Ricky Pedley.
“However, Bookmakers have been prompted to slash the odds straightaway and they are into 16/1 from 20s.
“Generally the head of the market – where you find Germany, Brazil and France – they have stayed steady but Spain and Portugal have drifted slightly after being drawn together and Argentina – who many believe have the toughest group, have drifted too.
“But looking at England, value wise – you can get 7/5 on the group win – but there are plenty of pessimists out there, and so if you think a repeat of 2014 is on he cards and The Three Lions fail to get out of the groups, then you can get 6/1 on them failing to qualify and 12/1 to again finish bottom.”
Selected England odds:
England To qualify from Group G – 1/4
England Not to qualify from Group G – 6/1
England To finish bottom of Group G – 12/1
Overall World Cup odds:
Germany 5/1
Brazil 5/1
France 5/1
Argentina 15/2
Spain 15/2
Belgium 12/1
England 16/1
Portugal 18/1
Uruguay 28/1
Russia 33/1
Columbia 33/1
Croatia 33/1
Poland 40/1
