Bookmakers are running scared of Cristiano Ronaldo and have made him a very short price odds-on favourite to win his record equalling fifth Ballon d’Or.
The 30-man shortlist has been confirmed for the biggest personal honour in world football – which features seven Premier League players, but just one Brit in the shape of Harry Kane.
Ronaldo is now understood to be in line to win the award for a fifth time, equalling the five occasions rival Lionel Messi has taken home the Golden Ball.
“This is one of those markets that Bookmakers do not want you on the favourite, hence the best price 1/33 for Ronaldo – they think this is a done deal,” revealed OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.
“The Bookmakers do not want to get caught here, they want Punters to be taking a chance, hence the 14/1 for second favourite Lionel Messi, 33/1 on Neymar or even the 50s you can get on Harry Kane.
“There not many certainties in life, and definitely not in sport – but if there is such a thing, this appears to be one of them.”
Ballon d’Or odds:
Cristiano Ronaldo 1/33
Lionel Messi 14/1
Neymar 33/1
Harry Kane 50/1
